Lecture 1: Systems Biology of Yeast Metabolism: Big Data Generation
Metabolism is highly complex and involves thousands of different connected reactions; it is therefore necessary to use a holistic approach for studying metabolism. With the advancement of different omics technologies it has become possible to perform such studies. Here different omics technologies for studying yeast metabolism will be presented and discussed, including transcriptomics, proteomics, and metabolomics. Focus will be on recent developments with quantitative analysis of mRNA and protein levels in the cell at a genome-scale, for analysis of translational processes and how the proteome is distributed to different cellular processes at different conditions. Finally, examples of how integration of different omics analysis can be used to gain new insights into cellular physiology will be presented.
